Important FAQs

The price of a project is determined by several factors based on Industry Standards:

  • The number of words to be recorded
  • How the project is used by the client (see below for more information)
  • If the project is for broadcast purposes (radio, streaming, tv), and how long it will “air”
  • If the file needs to be delivered in segments (split files) and how many separate files are needed
  • The timeline for delivery
  • Music mixing (client to supply and own the licensing rights to the music used)
  • Revisions
  • Additional services such as proofreading
  • Tags for commercials (ex: offer ends tomorrow, today, etc.)
  • Other needs that are not standard
Word Count: The number of words in your project is an important determinant towards the cost. If your script includes numbers, such as a phone number, each number counts as a word (ex: (615) 325-8455 equals 10 words). FYI, a typical 60 second commercial script is roughly 150 words. The projected time to edit is the “finished word” cost. Editing ensures the audio file is mastered to industry standards.

Usage:

  • Commercial Rights – If the voice over is used for non-broadcast purposes, promoting your business, product, or service on non-paid marketing channels, such as your business’ intranet site, external website, or social media page, then commercial rights are required.
  • Broadcast Rights – If the recording is used as a paid advertisement or promotional spot on a streaming service, TV, radio or internet radio, an additional fee applies. The cost is determined by the market size (local, regional, national), and the usage license purchased (6 months,1 year, perpetuity).

Mixing Music: Music can be added to a project if the client supplies the music track. Only music that is royalty-free or music the client owns the rights to use will be added to a project.

Split Files:  An additional fee applies to separate files for projects that are voiced in segments (chapters, modules, versions of scripts). The first file is included, but if additional files are needed, a nominal fee applies based on the total number of files required.

Revisions: When I make a mistake (ex: mispronouncing words) I will always fix those at no charge to the client. However, if the client needs to change the copy after the recording has begun, an additional fee is required. You can safeguard that need by purchasing the right to revisions in your service agreement. Please know that on longer projects such as an e-learning script, I will send a preliminary sample for the client to review and approve, checking for pace, tone, and understanding of the material. Once we agree on those items, the project is completed without further interaction, unless I need clarification on a pronunciation.

Priority Status: If a client needs a quick turn-around, they can move to the front of my work queue by requesting priority status. Depending on the size of the project, a mutually agreeable delivery date will be determined. For projects at/under 300 finished words, a 24-hour turn-around time is generally available.

Celebrity Impersonations: Sorry, I only do “Me”.

Subjects that are “Off Limits”: While I’m an open-minded person, there are certain things I won’t record, therefore, I need to review your script before I enter into a service agreement to do the work. Thanks for your understanding.

Service Agreement: Once all fees for a project are determined, the client will receive a service agreement to sign, then I will get to work.

Payment Terms: All fees are payable upon delivery of the audio file(s). For companies with net 30/60 day requirements, those terms should be included in the service agreement. Late fees of 5% will be added for all payments received 30 days or more after the agreed payment delivery date. Acceptable payment options include Venmo or Zelle. All other forms of payment need to be agreed to in advance.
